All Decked Out offers finely made outdoor furniture, hand-crafted on site, including Adirondack chairs and rockers, loungers, picnic tables, swings and much more. All furniture is made of Atlantic white cedar, which is durable and weathers beautifully. Delivery is available from Corolla to Ocracoke, and they ship if you can’t get it home on your own.

At this bookstore you get to wander around in a charming old cottage with sloping, creaky floors. The owner, Gee Gee Rosell, has a welcoming smile and great taste in books. Look for cookbooks, local interest books and music, fiction, nonfiction, best sellers, a great selection of Southern fiction, mysteries, field guides, unique greeting cards and note cards, journals and much more. Buxton Village Books is now selling Google e-books. The shop is open year round.

Indian Town Gallery and Gifts

Indian Town Gallery is one of the Outer Banks’ best art galleries. Most the art is made by Outer Banks artists, the majority of them from the island. The gallery also sells handmade crafts from locals and regional artists. One look in here and you’ll be convinced that the gift of creativity is abundant by the sea. This is the place to come for original works of art, some of them exclusive to this gallery, including paintings, pottery, jewelry, woodworks, photographs, blown glass, baskets and more. Most days you’ll find native painter Wayne Fulcher at work here. Indian Town offers weekly classes in watercolor painting, beading, sea-glass wrapping and other media. Be sure to call or check in for the weekly class schedule.

Scotch Bonnet Fudge and Gifts

Scotch Bonnet sells sweets and souvenirs. By far the biggest draw is their fudge, which is made fresh in house and is so good it was featured on the Food Network. You’ll find more than 30 flavors, so we dare you to try to resist. They also sell 24 flavors of saltwater taffy and 24 flavors of Jelly Belly jelly beans. Sugar-free fudge and taffy can be found here. Scotch Bonnet sells nice souvenirs, home decor, seashells, T-shirts and more. They also sell hermit crabs in the summer.

This Little Cottage

It’s a little bit hip, a little bit elegant, a little bit casual and a whole lot of fun. This Little Cottage stocks the latest names in bath and body, fine linens and pajamas and great coastal accents for your home. They also have gifts for babies and toddlers. And the shop features a wonderful line of indoor and outdoor furniture hand-crafted by one of the owners, such as Adirondack chairs, swings, picnic tables, scallop-shell tables, bookshelves and more. 

ABC Store

In North Carolina, all liquor and spirits other than beer and wine are sold at package stores by the name of ABC Stores. The Buxton ABC Store is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They are closed on Sundays. Beer and wine are sold at grocery and convenience stores.

Buxton Seafood

Buxton Seafood specializes in selling local seafood. Fish, clams, shrimp, scallops, oysters, crabs and more are available from this shop, where you can always trust the quality. They’ll steam shrimp and crabs for you. They also sell grocery items, including sauces, wine, produce, sushi supplies and candles. You’ll find it next to the water tower.

Caper’s Light

This gift shop offers a great variety, so much that you really have to come see it for yourself. You’ll find books, stained glass, flags, jewelry, nautical items, T-shirts, hats, driftwood, Harbor Lights and lots of lighthouses. It’s between the post office and the school.

CatFish Pottery

Take the time to seek out CatFish Pottery in Frisco. Look for the bright blue building and the CatFish sign. Owned and operated by clay artist Edith Camp to show and sell her fanciful and functional pottery, the gallery also features original paintings and prints by beloved Hatteras Island artists Lisa Cooper and Glenn Dodenhoff. You’ll also find Camp’s sculpted faces, which are sure to remind you of someone you know, plus lots of other fun things, like ugly mugs, skirts, mermaids, cookie jars, T shirts, handmade soaps and candles, berry bowls, luminaries and more.

Conner’s Supermarket

Family owned and operated on Hatteras Island for more than 50 years, Conner’s is a full-service grocery store that caters to locals and visitors. They offer a wide selection of items, from everyday necessities to gourmet treats. There’s a large selection of meats and produce, and the deli counter offers meats, cheeses and hot food specials to take away. They now have a complete organic and gluten-free section as well. Beach items and souvenirs are also available here.

This is Hatteras Island’s only full-service lumber and building materials supply company. It’s also a hardware store with everything that do-it-yourselfers need. They also have a store in Waves.

Diamond Shoals Seafood Market

Diamond Shoals Restaurant has an awesome seafood market where you can pick up locally caught seafood to cook at home yourself or purchase a fully cooked take-out dinner. They’re particularly well known for their New England clam chowder. Select from shrimp, clams, scallops, inshore and offshore fish, crabs and Diamond Shoals’ well-known homemade crab cakes. If you’re not in the mood to cook, let the market staff cook the seafood for you. They can fry, grill or broil any of the seafood for take-out, and after 5 p.m. they also offer sides to go — hushpuppies, French fries, cole slaw, baked potatoes or mashed potatoes. You’ll find the market in the same building as the restaurant. It’s open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day in the summer. Call for off-season hours.

Dillon’s Corner

This is really two stores in one. Downstairs it’s a tackle shop with bait, tackle, rods and reels, gas, gear, waders, boots, snacks, rod and reel repair, custom-rod building, tide charts and everything else for fishermen. Upstairs it’s a gift shop and gallery with artwork, prints, ceramics, candles, local interest books, novelties, lighthouse figurines, T-shirts and many other gifts and souvenirs. Dillon’s Corner now sells Vera Bradley. They also have a handy digital photo machine where you can print your photos off your digital camera.

Empty Nest Studio and Gallery

Multi-talented artist Crystal Blackmon is the owner of Empty Nest Studio and Gallery in Frisco, where she creates and sells her artworks. Blackmon is a silversmith, painter and photographer. In her gallery you’ll find her jewelry made from pearls and gemstones plus her charcoal portraits, watercolor and acrylic paintings and photography. New this year, Blackmon is casting seashells in bronze and silver. Blackmon says the island’s constant movement and flow energizes her to create unusual, one-of-a-kind artistic jewelry pieces.

Fox Watersports

Fox is a trusted source on the watersports scene, specializing in windsurfing, kiteboarding and surfing. You can buy all the gear you’ll need for these sports plus take lessons if you need them. You can also rent windsurfing equipment, surfboards, standup paddleboards, kayaks and bodyboards and purchase skim boards, sunglasses, clothes, flip-flops or a wetsuit. Sailboard and surfboard repair are offered in the Buxton location. Fox has a second location in Hatteras.

Frisco Art Center

The Frisco Art Center offers three distinct galleries under one roof — The Sea Glass Gallery, The Art Cottage and An Old-Fashioned Christmas Shop. Together, the galleries represent more than 75 local, North Carolina and coastal artists, and everything sold here is handcrafted by an artist. A few of the mediums you’ll find include pottery, jewelry, glass sculptures and photography, and there’s much more so plan to spend some time looking around here. The mission of the Frisco Art Center is to support the arts, sponsor students through scholarships and offer affordable prices to their customers.

Stop in to ask about windsurfing lessons and kayak rentals and to inquire about the campground and camping cabins. This is a WiFi hotspot.

This little pink shop at milepost 66 is stocked with home, patio and tiki bar décor. From the bright colors of the Caribbean metal art to the elegant beauty of the handmade wood and metal seashore wall scenes, lamps and mirrors, you’re sure to find a special something here. Check out the new surfer designs and saltwater fish collections. The popular beach windblocks are still available for sale or rent and are still only $7 a day or $35 a week.
