Hatteras Island Vacation Rentals
There’s a wide variety of Hatteras Island vacation rental homes for rent or sale. The most popular form of accommodation is the Hatteras vacation rental in which vacationers rent a fully equipped house by the week.
Thousands of Hatteras vacation rental homes can be found in the Cape Hatteras area, ranging from two bedrooms on Pamlico Sound to 10 or more bedrooms on the oceanfront, some luxurious, some simple. Rental home prices vary according to their amenities and proximity to the water, as is the case with all Outer Banks vacation rental homes. The rental process is made easy by many professional Hatteras Island vacation rental companies that take care of everything from deposits and contracts to cleaning and maintenance. Hatteras vacation rental homes are generally only available by the week, though you may be able to get a partial week if you can don’t mind waiting until the last minute to reserve. For late summer and fall rentals, Hatteras Island’s vacation rental companies will typically offer you the option of hurricane insurance for renters. It doesn’t cost much, and if you purchase it you won’t lose a deposit or be out any money if a hurricane threatens during your rental week.
Hatteras’s vacation rental homes are available year round, though some homes close in the winter. The summer season is when rates are at their highest because that is when there is most demand for accommodations. Be sure to make reservations well in advance. Fall is also a busy season on Hatteras Island because of the excellent fishing. Winter and early spring rates can be very affordable, and oftentimes the weather is nice in those times.

Avon Cottages offers nine oceanfront cottages, seven semi-oceanfront cottages and 11 oceanside cottages. These modern rental homes greatly range in size, sleeping from one to 14. Most cottages have an ocean view, large living/dining/kitchen areas, central heat and air and are fully furnished. Some have Jacuzzis or hot tubs. The cottages are available to rent weekly, but there are also efficiency one-bedroom apartments available to rent by the night. If the weekly cottages aren’t full, they’ll rent them by the night.

The Hooper family was one of the first to welcome visitors to Hatteras Island, starting with the opening of The Lighthouse View Motel in 1953. Thoroughly modern today, Lighthouse View offers a wide range of accommodations — 24 standard motel rooms sleeping two to four people, 22 villas with kitchens and 32 cottages ranging from two to four bedrooms and sleeping six to 10 people. All rooms, villas and cottages are on the ocean side of the island in north Buxton. Most rooms have ocean views while others face the sound. The motel has an outdoor pool and hot tub plus a lighted fish-cleaning table. This motel is still operated by the Hooper family and enjoys many repeat customers. It is open year round.
